ABOUT OPEF

The idea for the Oconomowoc Public Education Foundation (OPEF) was born when a small group of dedicated alumni began planning a tribute to retiring Oconomowoc High School drama and speech teacher, Vic Passante.

By creating a way for more than 300 people to make tax-deductible contributions at Passante’s celebration in June 2007, the group raised more than $63,000 toward enhancements for a new high school auditorium.

From that exciting beginning, the Oconomowoc Public Education Foundation became a reality with the leadership of businessman and Oconomowoc High School alumnus Craig Schiefelbein, and initial directors Maribeth Bush, Michael Herro and Donna Scholl.

The foundation now is led by a 22-member volunteer Board of Directors that consults with, but operates independently from, the Oconomowoc Area School District Board of Education and staff.

OPEF’s Board of Directors is continually exploring ways to provide new educational possibilities and to develop and grow funding sources that will enable the Foundation to fulfill its vision and mission. We welcome discussions on partnerships and involvement from other organizations also seeking to serve the Oconomowoc community. Please contact any board member with ideas.

With an eye toward preserving Oconomowoc’s unique spirit and small-town traditions, OPEF is dedicated to encouraging leadership, fostering excellence, and nurturing community in the Oconomowoc public schools.
